Recognized Among Nation’s Safest Hospitals with Third Consecutive ‘A’ Rating

NASHUA, NH (May 6, 2026) — St. Joseph Hospital has once again been recognized as one of the safest hospitals in the nation, earning an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group. This marks the third consecutive “A” grade for St. Joseph Hospital, placing it among just 87 hospitals nationwide to achieve this distinction.

What is The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade?

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a leading, independent rating system that evaluates how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm, including medical errors, injuries, infections, and accidents. Updated twice annually, the program assigns letter grades to approximately 3,000 hospitals across the country, using up to 32 evidence-based performance measures derived from national data sources.

How many local hospitals received an A rating?

St. Joseph Hospital is one of only three hospitals in New Hampshire to receive an “A” grade in the current reporting period, underscoring its ongoing commitment to patient safety and high-quality care.

“This recognition reflects the unwavering commitment of our entire team to providing safe, high-quality care to every patient we serve,” said John A. Jurczyk, FACHE, President of St. Joseph Hospital. “Earning an ‘A’ grade for the third time in a row is especially meaningful because it is based on rigorous, data-driven measures of how well we prevent harm and protect our patients. We are proud of this achievement and remain focused on continuously improving the care we provide for our community.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is fully transparent and designed to give patients and families clear, accessible information to make informed decisions about their healthcare. The grading system emphasizes real-world outcomes and safety practices, encouraging hospitals to prioritize patient well-being and continuously strengthen their safety protocols.
