Diagnostic Imaging Services

Why St. Joseph Hospital

At St. Joseph Hospital, we have a strong tradition of leading the way in diagnostic imaging. We were the first hospital in the greater Nashua area to implement PACS, or Picture Archiving and Communication System. PACS allows images and information to be accessed by multiple users at multiple locations simultaneously, facilitating instant consultations between the medical staff and our dedicated expert radiologists.

We know that the road to recovery starts with the right diagnosis. That’s why we provide state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic services within our diagnostic imaging department. We’ve invested in the latest technologies, giving you an accurate and timely diagnosis right here in Nashua.

This advanced technology is only strengthened by our knowledgeable technologists and staff who perform diagnostic testing with personal care and attention. They take the time to explain each procedure, so you’ll know what to anticipate every step of the way.

At St. Joseph Hospital, our patients have access to Computed Tomography or CT scans. A CT scan is a non-invasive diagnostic test that can be used to visualize nearly all parts of the body and diagnose disease or injury. It’s also helpful to plan for medical or surgical treatment as it is much more detailed than an X-ray.

Ultrasound is a non-invasive way of examining many of the body’s internal organs.

Ultrasound imaging involves exposing part of the body to high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body. Because ultrasound images are captured in real-time, they can show the structure and movement of the body’s internal organs, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels.

Ultrasound examinations can help to diagnose a variety of conditions and to assess organ damage following illness and can help evaluate symptoms such as pain, swelling and infection.

The Ultrasound department and equipment at St. Joseph Hospital has achieved accreditation by the American College of Radiology for quality.

We’re proud to provide nuclear medicine to the greater Nashua community. Nuclear medicine is a branch of medical imaging that uses small amounts of radioactive material to diagnose or treat a variety of diseases and other abnormalities within the body. Physicians use nuclear medicine to visualize the structure and function of an organ, tissue, bone or system of the body.

Think you might have a broken bone? Come on in for an X-ray. An X-ray machine produces a small burst of radiation that passes through the body, recording an image on a special digital image recording plate. This allows us to diagnose your injury or illness quickly and accurately.

The Breast Care Center at St. Joseph Hospital is one of the first women’s centers in New Hampshire to offer 3D Mammography, also called Tomosynthesis, for breast cancer screening. Breast tomosynthesis helps radiologists see breast tissue better by decreasing the effect of overlapping areas.
