NASHUA, NH (May 4, 2026) — St. Joseph Hospital and Cardiovascular Specialists of New England (CSNE) have reached an important milestone in advancing cardiac care, successfully implanting the AVEIR™ AR Atrial Leadless Pacemaker, a groundbreaking device designed specifically for the right atrium of the heart.
The procedure was performed collaboratively by St. Joseph Hospital’s Cath Lab team and David Chang, MD, FACC, FHRS of Cardiovascular Specialists of New England (CSNE), underscoring the strong clinical partnership between the two organizations and their shared commitment to bringing leading-edge cardiovascular treatments to the local community.
The AVEIR™ AR, developed by Abbott, is currently the only FDA-approved leadless cardiac pacemaker designed for atrial use. Unlike traditional pacemakers, which require leads (wires) and a surgically created pocket under the skin, this next-generation device is implanted directly into the heart muscle using a minimally invasive, catheter-based approach.
“This achievement reflects the continued innovation happening through the partnership between St. Joseph Hospital and Cardiovascular Specialists of New England,” said John Jurczyk, President, St. Joseph Hospital. “Together, we are proud to offer advanced technologies like the AVEIR atrial leadless pacemaker, ensuring patients in our community have access to cutting-edge cardiac care close to home.”
“Bringing the AVEIR atrial leadless pacemaker to our patients represents a significant advancement in how we treat cardiac rhythm disorders,” said Dr. Chang, Cardiovascular Specialists of New England. “We are committed to combine expertise and technology to deliver safer, less invasive options and improve outcomes for the patients we serve across New Hampshire.”
Leadless pacing technology represents a significant advancement in cardiac rhythm management, reducing potential complications associated with traditional systems while improving patient comfort and recovery.
This milestone underscores the shared dedication of St. Joseph Hospital and CSNE to clinical excellence and ongoing investment in innovative treatments that enhance patient outcomes.
