At St. Joseph Hospital Midwifery, we bring women’s healthcare “full circle,” providing care for women throughout their reproductive years and beyond. From first exams for adolescents to post-menopausal counseling, our certified nurse midwives offer sensitive care that combines clinical expertise with an understanding of a woman’s physical and emotional needs.
What is Midwifery?
Midwives are experts in women’s healthcare. The term midwife means “with the woman” and that’s exactly where you’ll find us ~ with you whenever you need us.
A Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) is an advanced registered nurse practitioner who holds a master’s of science degree or doctorate degree and is board-certified to practice midwifery by the American Midwifery Certification Board. In the state of New Hampshire, CNM’s are licensed by the Board of Nursing as advanced practice registered nurses and can make diagnoses, prescribe medication, and provide treatment. At St. Joseph Hospital Midwifery, we feel that midwifery is both a science and an art. Our midwives are experienced at blending traditional medical and pharmaceutical treatments with complementary treatments to meet your unique needs.
