A love of reading is blooming at St. Joseph Hospital, where young patients receive more than just medical care – they’re gifted their very own books! Through the Reach Out and Read program, our pediatricians transform routine checkups into literary adventures for children from birth to age three.
We’re proud to provide stories that support critical brain development and reflect and celebrate the diverse families we serve, featuring vibrant illustrations and meaningful representation. These books inspire family bonds, encourage healthy relationships and foster a love of reading.
Outside the hospital, the Souhegan Valley Interact Club, with members ages 11-17, built and stocked a Little Free Library by the main entrance. This inviting space allows anyone to take or donate books, spreading the joy of reading.
Inside, local Eagle Scout Ian Leonardi has collected and donated more than 600 classic children’s books to the Birth Center, ensuring all new parents go home with a first book for their newborn.
These early literacy initiatives are creating a culture of reading that strengthens family connections and supports healthy child development. One book at a time, St. Joseph Hospital is building a brighter, healthier future for children in our community.
