The atrium of St. Joseph Hospital glowed with warmth and remembrance as 2,000 candles illuminated the annual Lights of Remembrance celebration last December. Among these lights,170 candles featured the names of cherished loved ones, creating a sacred atmosphere where families gathered to honor their departed.
The 2024 event held special meaning for many attendees, particularly those unable to hold traditional funeral services, offering a space to gather and share in their grief together. The named candles represented memories, stories of lives well-lived and love that continues to shine on.
Local musician Ked Budka provided moving musical accompaniment throughout the evening, including a touching rendition of “You Are Not Alone” by Michael Jackson that resonated deeply with those present. The gentle music created a perfect backdrop for reflection and remembrance. Families were invited to take home their loved ones’ nameplates from the candles, a tangible connection to carry forward.
The event raised more than $8,900 for the hospital’s mission fund to support vital community and employee assistance programs that promote hope and healing throughout the year.
