August 2025 Mission Champion

Katie Perkins Sonographer

Katherine Perkins, RDMS, RVT – Clinical Instructor/Sonographer, began her career at St. Joseph Hospital in March of 2023 working in General Ultrasound. Her dedication and expertise quickly led her to add the role of Clinical Instructor.

What Katie enjoys most about her work is the opportunity to connect with her patients and to make a meaningful impact on their care. The work she does can be incredibly emotional and she values being able to share in her patient’s journey. Katie also deeply values her coworkers who have come to feel more like family.  Katie loves that her team works so well together, supporting and looking out for each other.  Katie says that she came to work at St. Joseph Hospital for the commute, and it has turned into the best career decision she has ever made!

Katie chose to pursue a career in Ultrasound after experiencing her own high-risk pregnancy, and because of that brings with her a personal understanding of the impact compassionate care can have.  One of the most memorable moments in her time here came when working with a patient who had struggled with infertility and had previously experienced loss but was now in with a viable pregnancy.  Katie said it was an incredibly emotional experience for her patient and herself as well.

Katie’s co-worker Lindsey Greenhalgh, Sonographer, says Katie alters her care to make all of her patients feel respected and comfortable.  She is incredibly compassionate and empathetic and really listens and sympathizes with patients. “She makes sure to deliver care and compassion, especially with those facing a hard time in their lives.”  As a Clinical Instructor, Katie spends a copious amount of time teaching her students. She makes sure that they have ample scanning time, even modeling as a patient when there is downtime.

Outside of work, Katie loves spending time with her family and friends, reading and traveling, especially her annual family trip to Maine.  She has 11-year-old twin daughters, Natalie and Olivia, and enjoys volunteering at their school events whenever she can!

Katie is a dedicated team member, always willing to taking on extra work and finding new ways to collaborate.   During our recent downtime she worked tirelessly to gather patient information, fax orders, compile results, update patient charts and get reports to ordering physicians as quickly as possible.

Katie truly lives the mission of St. Joseph Hospital, and we are grateful to have her on our team!

Congratulations, Katie!
