Heidi Fleig, RPSGT, Neurodiagnostics & Sleep Manager, began her career at St. Joseph Hospital in 2003 as a per diem Film Librarian in the Diagnostic Imaging Department. Over the years, she gained experience in various roles, including a Patient Service Representative in Laboratory Services and later as a Sleep Technologist in the Sleep Laboratory. While working in the Sleep Laboratory, Heidi expanded her expertise by becoming a Videonystagmography (VNG) Technician and Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technician. In 2017, she was promoted to Sleep Center Coordinator, and in 2021, she achieved a major milestone by becoming the Neurodiagnostic & Sleep Manager.
When asked what she enjoys most about working at St. Joseph Hospital, she immediately mentioned her colleagues. She loves being apart of “Team Teal,” the sleep team at St. Joseph Hospital, named after their signature teal scrub uniforms. She appreciates how they all support one another and together provide the best care for their patients. She also appreciates the leadership team, who have been instrumental in supporting her efforts to grow and improve the department.
“It is so heartwarming to see so many smiling faces and welcoming people around the hospital – it’s something you can count on every day,” says Heidi. “Whether it’s helping a patient to their destination or performing other important tasks, every staff member here plays such a crucial role in ensuring quality care for our patients.”
After over twenty years working at St. Joseph Hospital, Heidi has several standout memories. She joined the team in 2003, feeling uncertain about her career path during college. One pivotal moment was attending a case review meeting in the Sleep Center, where she saw firsthand the thorough work of doctors and support staff. This experience sparked her interest in returning to school with the goal of working in the Sleep Center.
More recently, Heidi had seen a patient who had been struggling to find answers and relief from various doctors outside of St. Joseph Hospital. With the help of a neurologist, she was able to schedule an immediate Electroencephalogram (EEG) and finally provide some answers. The patient and their family were grateful and had reached out to express their thanks for getting to the bottom of their health concerns.
Annette Tietz, Director of Specialty Services, says, “Heidi has an incredible work ethic; she exemplifies the ability to work hard while accomodating the needs of her patients, staff, and providers. She proactively juggles work schedules to create opportunities for growth in both volume and careers, maintianing a positive trend in volume and revenue for the department. Heidi is willing to share knowledge and enthusiasm with anyone. She is a positive force of nature.”
When Heidi isn’t at work, she can be found at home curled up on the couch with her beloved dogs, Dallas and Nola. In her free time, she loves to unwind by reading books, listening to music, or attending concerts. Heidi shares a home with her mother, Rhonda, who worked at St. Joseph Hospital for 34 years, many of which overlapped with Heidi’s time here.
Her passion for helping patients and providing top-notch care shines through every aspect of her work, making her an invaluable asset to St. Joseph Hospital.
Congratulations, Heidi!
