Sean McKay Awarded Mission Champion 2023

Sean McKay joined St. Joseph Hospital 8 years ago in June of 2015 as a Housekeeper in Environmental Services. Sean currently works second shift as the Environmental Services Lead Charge. He is very proud of the team that he has created over the years and is incredibly grateful to be able to work with them each day.

When asked about a memorable moment while working at St. Joseph Hospital, Sean recalls a time when he was working on the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. He came across a staff member who was visibly upset, which was out of the norm for her. He immediately stopped what he was doing and asked her if she was okay. She told him that she couldn’t find her car in the parking garage. Without hesitation, Sean went with her to each individual level of the parking garage until they were able to locate her car. Sean explains that if the roles were reversed, someone would have done the same to help him. He feels that anyone in his position would drop everything that they were doing to help, which is what makes St. Joseph Hospital such a special place to work.

Sean enjoys working in Environmental Services and tries to lead by example when working alongside his awesome crew. He treats his team members like an extension of his family, and works very hard to make sure their days are as bright and happy as possible. Sean focuses a lot of his attention on making sure that the hospital is always clean and ready for patients. He prides himself on being responsive to those in need and reacts quickly whenever there is a phone call to help on one of the floors. Sean and his team are always prepared to help those in need!

Tim McMahon, Director of Marketing, and Mez Camino, Director of Environmental Services, said, “It is common for all hospital staff team members to stop Sean in the corridor and ask for additional cleaning, trash removal, or help in moving furniture. He always looks for ways to help whoever is asking by shifting resources on his team or requesting that Lourdes Corado, Supervisor of Environmental Services, help the following day. Sean always follows up to ensure the task is completed. He is very team-focused and thrives to help his team be successful because he truly cares about his colleagues.”

When Sean is not at the hospital, you may hear him yelling, “BINGO!” at the local bingo hall. He also looks forward to nights out, dancing the salsa and merengue with his friends. On Sundays, Sean enjoys cheering on his favorite football team, the Dallas cowboys.

Congratulations, Sean!
