Joao Correia, Maintenance Mechanic, began his journey with St. Joseph Hospital in 2002, first working in the Environmental Services Department. After about three years in that role, he transitioned to Facilities, where he has dedicated himself for the past 20 years.
When asked about what he values most about working at St. Joseph Hospital, Joao highlighted his enthusiasm for collaborating with colleagues across both clinical and non-clinical departments. His unwavering positive attitude and compassionate nature are evident in his work, where he consistently brings care and kindness to every task. Although Joao often works behind the scenes, he purposely makes an effort to positively impact both patients and staff.
Some of Joao’s most memorable experiences at St. Joseph Hospital occur during the Christmas season. He enjoys the magic of St. Joseph Hospital employees coming together to care for those in need through the Annual Christmas Basket Project. He also looks forward to working with his colleague, Sheila Caron, Marketing Specialist, each year to decorate the hospital atrium with beautiful and festive displays for the holiday season.
“Joao lives out the Mission of St. Joseph Hospital every day by consistently offering his time and assistance to various departments, whether it’s helping move equipment, guiding lost patients in the hallway, or lending a hand at hospital events. Though his role is not patient-facing, Joao ensures that the needs of our patients and staff are met by performing critical facilities work. He helps set up tables and chairs for events held in the atrium, moves supplies for marketing, and installs banners to promote hospital activities and staff recognition weeks. Joao’s compassion is evident in the thoughtful, everyday actions he takes to make the hospital a welcoming place for everyone,” says Shannon March, Marketing Specialist.
Ricky Martin, Electrician, says, “Joao is the most dependable person in Facilities. He’d do anything for anyone, even give the shirt off his back. His generosity and kindness know no bounds.”
Additionally, Tim McMahon, Director of Marketing, adds, “Joao goes above and beyond in countless small ways. He never steps onto the elevator before a patient or colleague, he always holds the door and lets them enter first. If someone is lost in the hallways, he doesn’t just give them directions, he walks them to their destination, ensuring they feel cared for.”
When Joao is not at work, he enjoys watching soccer at home. He loves spending time with his wife, Judite, and cherishes quality moments with their son, Antonio, two daughters, Patricia and Melissa, and 10 grandchildren. He also enjoys going on vacation to visit his grandchildren and exploring other destinations.
Joao deeply appreciates the sense of community cultivated at St. Joseph Hospital, and deeply values the friendships that he has developed here.
Congratulations, Joao!
