Robin Downing, Mission Champion of the Month October 2023
Robin Downing, RN, BSN, RNFA, CNOR, joined the St. Joseph Hospital operating room team in November of 2018 as a Registered Nurse. After two years, Robin transitioned to the role of Nurse Navigator for the operating room. Currently, she is the Clinical Nurse Manager of Surgical Services, which oversees the operating room, post-anesthesia care unit, pre-admission testing, and sterile processing.
Rather than describing her most memorable experience while working here, she chose to reflect on the feeling of working here. From the moment she walked through the front doors of the hospital, everyone she met made her feel welcome and comfortable. This feeling has carried on throughout her entire time of working here. She explains, “When you walk down the hallway, you always see friendly faces who will help anyone in need.”
After working at her previous job of 16 years, Robin knew that it would be scary to take the next step, but she is very happy that she decided to make a change and join the St. Joseph Hospital team. Robin’s favorite part of her job is the team she gets to work with. The community that she has within her department makes her job such an enjoyable experience. All of her coworkers take care of one another, and they have become a second family to her. Robin considers it a blessing that each person she works with brings a different type of knowledge to the table, which makes their team as strong as it could possibly be.
Jamie Fontaine, Central Sterilization Supervisor, says, “Robin is compassionate not only to our patients, but also to her staff. When someone is struggling, she will jump in to help them – putting together gift baskets to help brighten their day. When talking with patients, she always speaks in a gentle voice to put them at ease and make them feel comfortable.”
When Robin is not at work, you can find her sitting out on her front porch enjoying the serenity of her property. Her amazing view includes beautiful Christmas trees that are planted across the way from her porch. Robin mentions that she does not need to take a vacation because of where she lives – she feels like she is on one already! When not sitting on her porch, Robin likes to host fun parties poolside and enjoy food from the barbecue. Robins family includes her husband, Bob, and their two boys, Tyler and Jake. All of the men in her life are engineers by trade. Robin and her family are excited as they have also added a new puppy to their family – a 14 week old Australian Bernedoodle named Lana.
