Andrea Martel – Accounts Payable Specialist awarded Mission Champion September 2025
Andrea Martel – Accounts Payable Specialist. First a student volunteer, Andrea began her career at St. Joseph Hospital in 1977 upon graduating high school. Andrea took time off in 1983 to raise her children and returned in 2007. She worked first as a cashier and over the years has also worked in payroll, accounts payable for St. Mary’s and is currently an accounts payable specialist serving St. Joseph Healthcare in Bangor.
What Andrea enjoys most about her work are the people she works with. She says they are a true team and that’s why, she feels, they all stay and the department doesn’t see a lot of turnover. One of her favorite parts of her day is their daily lunchtime walks.
Andrea’s co-worker Amber Stocking said of Andrea, “Andrea is always so eager to help everyone. She comes at every situation with compassion and an open heart. She goes above and beyond in her job duties and is always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. Andrea has devoted more than 20 years to St. Joseph Hospital, holding multiple positions within.” She went on to say, “Andrea is our spiritual rock of the department. Not only does she practice the mission values of St. Joseph Hospital, she is an outstanding member of her local church and community. Andrea is the total package.”
Outside of work, Andrea cherishes time with her family. She enjoys going out to breakfast at the Pine Street Eatery with her husband and having cook outs and spending holidays with her parents, her 4 adult children and her 4 grandchildren. Andrea also enjoys trips to Florida, where 2 of her grandchildren live.
We know we have a real treasure when a Mission Champion has been recognized previously, and Andrea is just that. In July 1982, Andrea was recognized as the St. Joseph Hospital Employee of the Month! Andrea truly lives the mission of St. Joseph Hospital, and we are grateful to her dedication and are so happy to have her on our team!
