Personal Experience Inspires School of Nursing Scholarship Fund
Dale and Dorothy, also known as Dotty, Fox are retired. Before they began their life together, Dotty studied nursing at a small Catholic hospital-sponsored school – much like St. Joseph School of Nursing.
In 2024, Dale and Dotty attended an open house at the School of Nursing. Dotty shares, “Our granddaughter is considering a career in nursing, and we were curious about what type of programs they offered. We were impressed with the education and training options available to students today.”
During their visit, Dale and Dotty listened to several speakers. Dotty recalls one presenter saying, “We don’t let students fall through the cracks here. We make sure they succeed.”
When Dotty was in nursing school her father passed away. She had planned to drop out of school because her family could no longer afford the tuition. She recalls, “A fellow student who was on scholarship was relocating. When she learned about my situation, she advocated to have her scholarship transferred to me. I was lucky – I was able to finish my degree.”
Dale and Dotty often discussed how to give back in their retirement years. After their open house visit, they felt a scholarship would be a fitting tribute to Dotty’s personal experience. Soon after, with a $50,000 endowment, the Fox Family Scholarship Fund for the St. Joseph School of Nursing, was created.
“Both of us have had wonderful experiences at St. Joseph Hospital. We’ve always felt welcomed and well taken care of,” says Dale. “Education is important. We’re happy to provide deserving students the opportunity to learn without accumulating significant debt.”
