Aimee Smith, RN, BSN, PCCN, joined the St. Joseph Hospital team 21 years ago as an LNA through Souhegan Home Health and Hospice Care. She has supported many departments as a Registered Nurse throughout her journey with the hospital including orthopedics, inpatient cardiac care, the medical surgical unit, and in the cardiac stress lab. Aimee then worked directly on our cardiac unit as well as our neurological medical surgical unit as an ANM. For the last two years, she has worked as the Clinical Nurse Manager on both our 3 South and and neurological medical surgical units.
Aimee says, “We have an opportunity every day to improve the well-being of another human being.” She continues to improve the well-being of others with her supportive and caring personality. Aimee mentions that the best part about her job is being able to empower her staff to be the best that they can be each and every day. She is an attentive leader and listens to her team to make sure that they feel well supported, in order to provide the best care possible to their patients. Aimee takes pride in assisting her team when and where she is needed. Her biggest priority is to make sure each patient within her units are taken care of. She adds that she is thankful for her amazing team with whom she works with each day. She noted that they are truly selfless people that go above and beyond.
“Aimee has gone above and beyond for years for her unit and the patients she cares for,” says Kailyn Biggar, Clinical Resource Nurse. She added that Aimee represents the St. Joseph Hospital Mission specifically by her ability to collaborate with all departments to ensure the best protocols and policies are followed for patient safety. According to her coworkers, Aimee has created her unit to be a welcoming environment with strong communication skills, support, and accountability. She frequently bakes goods for other departments and enjoys celebrating accomplishments by hosting small get-togethers in the conference room of her unit.
Aimee’s most memorable moments include when she makes a new connection with a patient who’s admitted for a long-term stay. She feels blessed to have a team that goes above and beyond to ensure that these patients feel most comfortable while in the hospital. One of the main ways that they do this is by listening to patients needs – if they request anything, the team will go above and beyond to get it. This might include a pair of shoes or decorations for the holidays. Aimee emphasized how selfless her team is, noting that it brings her great personal joy to work with such amazing people.
When Aimee is not empowering her staff and taking care of her patients, you can find her skiing down mountains with her family, including her husband, Jeremey, two daughters, Darian and Mercedes, and their Black Labrador Pitbull mix, Kiana. She also loves to travel and go glamping. Her favorite vacation destination was visiting the Hawaiian Islands.
Congratulations Aimee!
