Ella Borges, LNA, started her journey at St. Joseph Hospital in 2020, working on the 4 South Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit as an LNA. For the past year, Ella has worked on our Maternal Child Health Unit as a Perinatal Scrub Technician, LNA. Ella is the youngest member of the team on her unit. She enjoys the strong support system within her team, and looks up to her coworkers, who are like second mothers to her.
Ella’s favorite part of her job is knowing that she is helping create a core memory for families as they bring their children into the world. “It is such a memorable day for each family, and I enjoy making it important and special for them in any way that I can”, says Ella. She takes pride in going above and beyond for the babies, especially those born on holidays. She buys and keeps a supply of holiday hats, ready for each baby who is born on that special day. Ella sees her coworkers as an extension of her family, which is why she enjoys working holidays. She truly enjoys working on her unit, and credits them as an amazing team.
One of Ella’s most memorable moments working on Maternal Child Health was when she assisted a laboring mother who was feeling discouraged after four hours of pushing. Ella and her team were quick thinkers and helped encourage her by singing the patients favorite song, “September”, by Earth, Wind, and Fire. This brought the expecting mother the joy, strength, and encouragement that she needed. After the baby was born, Ella, her coworkers, and the new mother were dancing and laughing as they celebrated the wonderful birth of her child, forgetting the difficult moments of the delivery. For Ella, it was amazing to see the mother gather her strength and push through because of the care that the team provided for her.
“I cannot think of a single time where Ella didn’t make a friend. She enters every patients room with a smile and respectfully introduces herself”, says Tara Reany, RN. “She offers help, fresh water, and often, shares a good laugh with our patients. Young or old, Ella will strike up a conversation to make every patient feel at home, well cared for, and at ease. Ella is an amazing team player and an integral staff member on our unit. She comes to work prepared and ready to rock her shift with her team. She lends a helping hand without being asked. She anticipates our needs and the needs of the physicians who rely on her skills, especially during C-sections. We don’t have to ask for a room to be set up – she’s already done it! We don’t have to refill patients waters or send menus down to the cafeteria – she’s already done it! All of the little ways she helps out add up to be a huge help to her coworkers.”
When Ella is not here at the hospital, you can find her spending time with her little sisters, Kyra and Penelope, or with her boyfriend, Drew. Ella enjoys shopping at her favorite store, Target, or relaxing while enjoying a cup of Starbucks coffee.
Congratulations Ella!
