Vasty Stone, LNA/HUC, Awarded Mission Champion for Month of January 2024

Vasty Stone, Licensed Nursing Assistant/Health Unit Coordinator, joined St. Joseph Hospital in 2015 as part of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. She was originally hired as an LNA, and five years later, became the HUC. Vasty has excelled in both of her roles because she ensures her team is on the same page when it comes to communication each time she is on the unit, as well as when she leaves the unit.

When asked about the favorite part of her job, Vasty says that her department is an amazing group of people to work with. She feels that the staff are beyond supportive, and treat each other with so much respect and love. Vasty adds that St. Joseph Hospital is her home away from home.

In 2023, the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit was awarded, “Best Team” at St. Joseph Hospital, which is something that Vasty is especially proud of. She adds that it is easy to come to work every day because she is so passionate about what she does – and that caring for her patients and coworkers is her #1 priority.

The most rewarding part of Vasty’s job here at St. Joseph Hospital is being able to watch them go through real time progress of each patient. She says, “When it comes to a patients growth, it is awesome to watch them go through the steps of being a Hoyer lift transfer, to standing on their own, then to finally be discharged walking out the door.” She adds that she loves it when patients return back to the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit to visit as they are so proud to show off their continued progress. The team on the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit helps their patients live their lives the way that they expected to. Each patients progression is different, and Vasty goes above and beyond in ensuring they are all well taken care of.

Brittney Bishop, RN, of Inpatient Rehabilitation, says, “Our team would be lost without Vasty. She is an exceptional LNA and HUC. I do not know how she manages to juggle all that she does as a HUC and still remain calm. I have seen her have a day with four patient discharges and four patient admissions.”

She adds, “Each time that I am driving into work, and know that I am working with Vasty that day, I feel a lot less stressed. I feel this sense of relief because I know that no matter what kind of shift I might have, Vasty will be there to make sure everything runs smoothly. She will make sure no detail, large or small, is missed.”

When Vasty is not working at St. Joseph Hospital, you can find her spending time with her family, which includes her husband, Michael, who she has been married to for 25 years, and her three daughters – Yameley (25), Ashley (20), and Olivia (16). Vasty and her girls love spending time together whether its doing hair, nails, or baking.

Vasty is so proud to be an employee at St. Joseph Hospital, and loves coming to work each day. Vasty being awarded Mission Champion is well deserved, and we are blessed to have her be a part of our team!

Congratulations, Vasty!
